MENTAL HEALTH

Together We Make Things Better

Building and strengthening relationships is the hallmark of the work of Reach For Youth. With 51 years of experience, Reach For Youth provides mental health services that take a two-generation approach to resolving root causes of behavioral or emotional difficulties. Our aim is to help the overall functioning of the family. We offer a continuum of mental health and positive youth development services that are uniquely tailored to address the needs of children and youth, age 7-18, and their parents and help them overcome life challenges that put current and future success at risk. Our services help to create an environment where youth and parents feel safe and assured that each person is heard and respected; where new perspectives are learned that strengthen the resilience of each family.

Reach For Youth also offers group prevention services and educational workshops specifically related to mental health and social justice issues impacting families and communities.

1. Child, Adolescent, and Family Services

Child & Adolescent Services

Young people today face growing mental health challenges—1 in 6 U.S. youth experience a mental health disorder each year. At Reach For Youth, we help youth, ages 7–18, navigate stress, anxiety, trauma, and emotional distress with compassionate support and evidence-based care. Our programs support children and teens through individual and family therapy, behavioral health interventions, and access to psychiatry when needed—helping them build resilience and emotional wellness.

Family Therapy Services

What happens to one member of the family, impacts the entire family – parents, guardians, and siblings alike. Our licensed therapists offer family-centered mental health services that address behavioral, emotional, and developmental concerns across all life stages. Therapeutic family sessions help to build healthier communication, stronger relationships, and meaningful solutions.

Psychiatry Services

In partnership with licensed providers, Reach For Youth offers psychiatric services for children and teens who are in services and who may benefit from medication management alongside therapy. These services are designed to support long-term mental and emotional wellbeing. If medication services are sought, a psychiatric medication assessment is provided by our contracted psychiatrist – meeting with parent and youth.  If medications are prescribed, the family is scheduled for regular medication check ups during the course of their mental health services with Reach For Youth.

2. Mental Health Education & Training Services

To ensure the quality of our services, Reach For Youth provides ongoing training of staff regarding our programs and services, including conducting ongoing evaluations of implementation and impact of services provided.  Education and Training offerings include:

Empower YOUth:

Empower YOUth is our agency’s comprehensive Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) program that aims to create a generation of emotionally intelligent, socially responsible, and resilient youth who are prepared to face the challenges of today and tomorrow. Through a blend of engaging activities, meaningful discussions, and practical skill-building, youth are empowered to thrive academically, personally, and socially.

Tailored for schools and community agencies, the Empower YOUth curriculum is evidence-led and is aligned with the CASEL framework and addresses the following competency areas: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, responsible decision-making, and respect for cultural differences.

Empower YOUth is not just an educational program; it is a transformative journey that empowers youth to thrive emotionally, socially, and academically, setting the stage for a resilient and confident generation of future leaders. This program is held during summer months in the community with community partners of the agency, serving youth in their communities.

Restorative Justice

Restorative Justice Services

Our restorative justice programs are designed to repair harm, restore relationships, and offer second chances. We believe that accountability, empathy, and healing are powerful tools in a youth’s journey forward.

Teen Court

Teen Court is a peer-driven justice diversion program for first-time, non-violent youth offenders. Youth are tried by a jury of their peers—jurors, attorneys, and bailiffs—who assign constructive consequences. This experience promotes responsibility, accountability, and leadership while reducing recidivism. Court is held weekly with local volunteer attorneys overseeing the process.

Restorative Justice Circles

These healing circles bring together youth who have caused harm, their families, victims, and community members in a facilitated setting. Through dialogue, accountability, and mutual understanding, participants create action plans for repairing harm and rebuilding trust. Circles provide an alternative path to traditional legal consequences and promote long-term transformation.

At Reach For Youth, we believe that accountability, healing, and growth are possible when youth are given a chance to learn from their mistakes. Our Restorative Justice Services are built to empower young people to repair harm, rebuild trust, and re-engage with their communities in meaningful ways.

We don’t just intervene—we invest in their potential to change.

Why R.E.A.C.H.?
We aim to remove barriers to school attendance and participation, and barriers to parents own economic growth. We teach essential skills – providing essential mental health skills necessary for success. Our R.E.A.C.H. Curriculum: ‘Learning and Earning in the 21st Century: What You Need to Know and How to Succeed.’ 5th Edition, Dr. Angela Reeves author. This program is integrated into our clinical services for youth ages 14-18, and is also offered as a 6-week introductory group to community schools interested in having students motivated for success in their academic studies.
Our R.E.A.C.H. program focuses on 10 key areas for achievement, personal development, life skills, and academic success. It supports growth in self-esteem, responsibility, and leadership through active mentoring and coaching. We aim to remove barriers to school attendance, participation, and performance while unleashing the learning and earning power of students – including student athletes. We do this by providing the latest information in essential emotional, social, and mental health strategies that strengthen skills necessary for optimal success in school, in sports, and in life! As a two-gen program, parents are provided with essential resources that assist them in their understanding of their youth’s needs for success in today’s academic and financial economy. Parents also have the opportunity to identify key areas they desire to strengthen academic, vocational training, or economic growth opportunities with R.E.A.C.H.
Family Forums
Reach For Youth offers family forums to engage youth, parents, and non-parental caregivers with ongoing mental health education and resources. Family forums are opportunities for parents, guardians, and youth, to gather for collaborative learning, sharing and problem solving on issues most relevant to them, including areas of mental health and resilience, parenting support, reduction of violence, and maintaining safe and healthy social relationships in a digital age.  Family forums help to reduce the stigma of mental health and raise the understanding of the reciprocal nature of what impacts individuals, families, schools, and communities. Topics include education about mental and behavioral health; impacts of school absenteeism; mood disorders in youth; social media; effective kinship care; and developing soft skills.
Substance Misuse
Through early prevention, education, and individual therapy, we help youth understand and address substance use before it becomes a crisis. Youth and parents who identify substance use to be a behavior that is currently present or is a part of family history that poses a risk to current functioning at home, school or the community, Reach For Youth offers evidence-based care in individual and family sessions to identify and reduce harm. Substance misuse therapeutic education is provided as part of the individual, family, or group services (when available).
